Let me tell you a story of a leader, who is saving life with math and statistics. I'm in awe of Dr. Nonhanhla Yende-Zuma’s story. She grew up in a village where most considered it a waste of time for girls to attend school — but that didn’t stop her from earning top grades in math and eventually earning her Ph.D. in statistics. She is the first black South African woman to graduate with a Ph.D. in Statistics at UKZN. Now she’s using her expertise at CAPRISA to help South Africans overcome their skepticism of Western Medicine.
